The Lane Kiffin saga took another turn Saturday after Ole Miss took care of Tulane 41-10 in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

According to ESPN, Kiffin’s new contract with LSU guarantees him a $250,000 bonus for the Rebels advancing to the CFP quarterfinals.

As part of Kiffin’s new 7-year, $91 million contract with LSU, the Tigers agreed to pay all of Kiffin’s bonuses he would have been owed by Ole Miss had he stayed with the Rebels. That started with a $150,000 bonus for Ole Miss making the 12-team CFP field, an additional $250,000 earned Saturday when Ole Miss advanced to the Sugar Bowl to play Georgia on New Year’s Day in a CFP quarterfinal and escalates all the way to a standalone $1 million bonus should Ole Miss win the CFP national title.

Kiffin coached Ole Miss to its first-ever 11-win season in 2025 and a presumptive CFP berth before infamously bolting Oxford to Baton Rouge on Nov. 30. The 50-year-old Kiffin attempted to negotiate an arrangement to continue coaching Ole Miss through the CFP run, but Rebels officials shut that down and promoted defensive coordinator Pete Golding to replace him.

Kiffin is owed the CFP bonus payments from LSU within 30 days after the Rebels’ season ends, according to the term sheet signed by both the coach and school.
