Both teams enter this weekend’s showdown with No. 1 rankings. Ole Miss is ranked No. 1 in the Baseball America Poll and D1Baseball Poll. Tennessee is ranked No. 1 by the publication Perfect Game, giving the program its first No. 1 ranking in any poll.
Tennessee is atop the SEC East standings with records of 20-1 overall and 3-0 in SEC play. Ole Miss, meanwhile, is 16-4 overall. Arkansas leads the SEC West with a 3-0 record in conference play. The Rebels and Texas A&M are tied for second place with conference records of 2-1.
Friday’s game is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, streaming on SEC Network+. The projected starting pitchers are Ole Miss’ John Gaddis (2-0, 2.78 ERA, 25 K, 7 BB) and Tennessee’s Chase Burns (4-0, 0.67 ERA, 34 K, 9 BB).
We’ll see if Kiffin puts any mustard on his ceremonial first pitch.
