LSU’s running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson will be formally introduced as Texas-San Antonio’s head coach on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Head coach Les Miles released this statement regarding Wilson, who just completed his sixth season in Baton Rouge as part of Miles’ staff:

“It stands to reason that with the success that we have had here at LSU, our coaches are going to get these types of opportunities. Frank has been a big part of what we’ve accomplished at LSU both on and off the field. He’s ready to be a head coach. He’s worked long and hard for this opportunity and I couldn’t be happier for Frank and his family. He’s going to do a great job at Texas-San Antonio. We are going to miss him.”

Wilson replaces Larry Coker, who resigned from the position on Jan. 5 after a 3-9 season. The Roadrunners’ football program recently joined the FBS, having competed in the Western Athletic Conference in 2012 before being a part of the C-USA the last three seasons.

Wilson is among several of Miles’ assistants that have gone on to earn college head coaching jobs elsewhere: Todd Monken (Southern Miss), Bo Pelini (Nebraska and Youngstown State), Bradley Dale Peveto (Northwestern State), Larry Porter (Memphis) and Jimbo Fisher (Florida State).
