LISTEN: ESPN analyst explains why Chad Morris’s draft success at SMU will help him at Arkansas

This year, the SMU Mustangs had three players selected in the NFL Draft — WR Cortland Sutton (Round 2), DE Justin Lawler (Round 7) and WR Trey Quinn (Round 7, Mr. Irrelevant) — and that reflects well on former coach Chad Morris.
Now the head coach at Arkansas, Morris will need to continue sending players to the NFL if he wants to have success in Fayetteville. Arkansas only had two players — C Frank Ragnow (Round 1) and RB David Williams (Round 7) — taken in the 2018 draft.
On Tuesday, ESPN.com writer Ryan McGee — famous for his weekly “Bottom 10” rankings during the season — said Morris’s draft success at SMU is even more incredible when you consider where the program was a few years ago:

“The fact that he got that team to the postseason, and the fact that he had players drafted off of that team, is unbelievable,” he said. “When you see what they were four or five years ago, they won my bottom-10 championship I think twice before (Morris) took the job. That program was so abysmally awful and the fact that he turned them into winners and had players drafted — I’ve said all along, if you can win there, you can win anywhere.”
There aren’t too many big-time NFL prospects in Arkansas this year, so Morris will have his work cut out for him once again.
