LOOK: 11 former SEC players receive Super Bowl LII rings following Philadelphia championship
While the Eagles have known they were coming for some time, there can’t be many things as memorable as the time you receive your first Super Bowl ring.
That’s something the entire Philadelphia organization experienced recently as the Eagles were given their Super Bowl rings Thursday night during a ceremony celebrating the team’s win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
“It was a fun process and it took way more hours than I thought previously,” Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie said after playing a role in the creation of the ring. “I thought, ‘You know, you just sort of come up with some ring, and you make many, and you have a party.’ I never really thought of the details that were required.”
Among the players that earned a Super Bowl ring were 11 former SEC players. Here’s the list of players hailing from the conference that got rings on Thursday:
-
- Derek Barnett, DL, Tennessee
- Trey Burton, TE, Florida
- Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi State
- Dannell Ellerbe, LB, Georgia
- Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina
- Donnie Jones, P, LSU
- Jalen Mills, DB, LSU
- Chance Warmack, OL, Alabama
- Jaylen Watkins, DB, Florida
- Caleb Sturgis, K, Florida
- Jason Peters, OT, Arkansas
Considering this was Philadephia’s first Super Bowl win, the organization went the extra mile to ensure everyone that helped the franchise get to this point was rewarded. The Eagles even gave out rings to employees that are no longer around.
Among the recipients of the Super Bowl LII rings was a former team secretary that Chip Kelly reportedly fired during his tenure as head coach of the Eagles. The secretary worked for the team spanning three decades. Her work was also rewarded by the team:
So my aunt works for the eagles for three decades as the head coach’s secretary.
Chip Kelly fires her.
