Greg McElroy led the Alabama Crimson Tide to the 2010 national championship, but you’d think he was Clemson’s quarterback based on the hate he received on Sunday afternoon.

That’s because the former Alabama quarterback listed Clemson as the No. 1 team in his power rankings, one spot ahead of his alma mater.

The current SEC Network analyst immediately faced backlash from the Crimson Tide faithful, who weren’t happy with the perceived disrespect:

McElroy makes a good point, as the only rankings that really matter are the College Football Playoff rankings.

Whether or not Alabama is at the top of those rankings when they come out remains to be seen, but if they are, McElroy will likely be ridiculed for his selection on Sunday even more.
