LSU appears to be welcoming back a former football staff member who was with the team during its undefeated national championship season in 2019.
Jeff Martin, who previously was director of scouting and relations at USC, has been hired as executive director of player personnel, according to On3.
Martin was hired to the USC staff in March 2021. Before that, he was LSU‘s lead personnel analyst for player development, a post he held for 4 seasons. That followed two seasons as a player personnel assistant and assistant director of on-campus recruiting operations in Baton Rouge.
He is a three-time LSU graduate who received a bachelor’s in 2009 and 2015 in mass communication and sports administration, respectively. Martin later graduated with a master’s degree in kinesiology.
As On3’s Shea Dixon notes, Martin’s hiring will mean that he has worked for 4 LSU head coaches: Nick Saban, Les Miles, Ed Orgeron, and now Brian Kelly. He was on the Tigers’ staff in 2019 as Joe Burrow led the program to its fourth national championship.
On the field, the Tigers will look to improve on their 9-4 record from 2024. They recovered from a season-opening loss to USC in Las Vegas to win 6 in a row, but dropped 3 straight to fall out of the College Football Playoff chase. LSU eventually won its final 3 games, including the Texas Bowl against Baylor.
