After some early-season struggles, hope suddenly surrounds the Auburn program. Much of that is due to the recent signing of transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham, but some can be attributed to the play of the youth on the roster.

One such player who is showing he could have a bright future is freshman safety Marlon Character. Over the past few practices ahead of the team’s Sugar Bowl appearance, Character has stood out among his freshman teammates, according to Tom Green of al.com.

“The most productive has been Marlon Character,” linebacker Tre’ Williams told Green. “On special teams and on defense, he’s a really good player, very athletic. I’m just ready to see him in the spring.”

Fans did not get a chance to see Character play this season, as he took a redshirt. Recruited as a safety, Character has been reportedly getting most of his work as a corner in practice.

Williams told Green that Character flies around and shows plenty of effort, qualities that should help him fit right in with the Tigers’ defense.
