As Carson Beck gets set to make his Miami debut in the massive season opener vs. visiting Notre Dame, the Hurricanes are hopeful of greatness from the former Georgia quarterback.

Cam Ward, Miami’s quarterback last season, was a Heisman Trophy finalist en route to becoming the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Hurricanes’ staff is confident Beck has what it takes to be 1 of the nation’ top players this season.

During CBS Sports’ College Football Insiders show, John Talty revealed that Miami expects Carson Beck to be a finalist for the most prestigious individual award in the sport.

“They’re really bullish on him. I talked to someone down there recently and they said they would be shocked if he’s not in New York for the Heisman ceremony as a finalist,” Talty said. “That’s the kind of caliber of player they think he is and how he fits in Shannon Dawson’s offense.”

Beck was at Georgia from 2020-24 and compiled 7,912 yards and 58 touchdowns with 20 interceptions through the air. In 27 career starts, Beck is 24-3.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series 18-8-1 vs. Miami. In the last meeting in 2017, Miami routed visiting Notre Dame 41-8.

Notre Dame at Miami is slated for Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ABC.
