Miami knocks Texas A&M out of College Football Playoff on game-ending interception
Miami defeated Texas A&M 10-3 on Saturday afternoon in a memorable first-round College Football Playoff matchup.
This game was tied 0-0 at the half and neither offense had much momentum all day, particularly in the red zone. The Hurricanes took a 10-3 lead on a Malachi Toney touchdown with under 2 minutes remaining in the contest.
Marcel Reed responded by leading Texas A&M right down the field, putting the Aggies in position to potentially tie or win the game in the final seconds. But on 3rd down and goal, Reed’s effort was picked off Miami’s Bryce Fitzgerald, effectively ending the game.
Here’s a look at the crucial play that sent Miami to the next round of the CFP:
It was a rough day overall for Reed. This was his second interception on the day. Texas A&M was fortunate to only be down by 7 points late in the 4th quarter as Miami missed 3 field goals earlier in the contest, any of which could have put the game away much earlier.
Reed finished the game 25-of-39 for 237 yards, 2 interceptions and 0 touchdowns.
Miami will now advance to play Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
