Miami obliges Florida’s request for ‘white out’ in The Swamp on Saturday

Miami is fully onboard with Florida’s request for a “white out” in The Swamp for Saturday’s showdown.
When the Gators released their uniform schedule for the season, including the traditional home combo for Week 1, they called on fans to wear white.

The Hurricanes are happy to oblige UF’s request. Mario Cristobal’s squad will sport white helmets, white jerseys and white pants. The team’s Instagram account captioned the uniform photo with, “Someone told us to wear white on Saturday” with a shrug emoji.

Even before Miami’s announcement, Florida fans were highly critical of the call to wear white. Based on the social media replies to a team announcement that the game is sold out, many UF fans were not planning to along with the “white out.”

Your uniforms are blue tops on white pants. Why would you encourage fans to wear white when Miami has to be in white tops? My recommendation is to avoid major alcohol consumption and drink plenty of fluids (water, Gatorade).

Attire, on the field and in the stands, won’t factor into Saturday’s game. Regardless of what color they chose to wear in the stands or at home watching TV, fans should be in for an entertaining game.
At DraftKings Sportsbook, Florida is currently a 2.5-point home underdog. ESPN’s Bill Connelly shared earlier this week that the SP+ formula projects a 30-30 tie (30.1-29.8 in favor of Florida). ESPN’s Football Power Index, a simulation-based metric that measures team strength, gives UF a 57.5% chance of winning on Saturday.
Miami has a 29-27 edge in the rivalry series. The teams last faced each other in Orlando to open the 2019 season, a 24-20 win for the Gators. Saturday’s meeting is set for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff, part of an “SEC on ABC” tripleheader.
