Mike Elko has quickly helped Texas A&M become comfortable with winning and take that next step they could not take under Jimbo Fisher. They are the highest-ranked team in the SEC and third in the country, but Elko says the team has embraced that role and is very confident.
On Thursday’s episode of the Paul Finebaum Show, Mike Elko elaborated more on how he and his team are navigating the season as the top-ranked team in the SEC. He said that the team has a quiet confidence to them, and that has translated to them winning on Saturdays.
“We’re the hunted team. We learned what that felt like last year. It’s a good learning lesson and something we had to go through. There’s a quiet confidence in our locker room right now. They know what goes in to winning on Saturdays.”
The Aggies are the only remaining undefeated team in the SEC, with an 8-0 record. They have two big road games remaining against Missouri and Texas, and if they win at least one of those games, they will be in the College Football Playoff.
The mindset Elko has discussed is crucial because, at the end of the day, these are still college kids. Their confidence in continuing to compete in the toughest conference and knowing they will win is a testament to their talent as a team and how good a coach Elko is.
