Mike Elko reached into his bag of tricks in the 3rd quarter of Texas A&M‘s Week 11 game at Mizzou.
The Aggies already held a 21-7 lead as they’re in search of a 9-0 start, their best opening to a season since 1994. They’re also hoping to get a step closer to a berth in the SEC Championship Game and a College Football Playoff appearance.
With just over 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd, the Aggies looked as if they would punt after a 3-and-out. Elko, though, had other ideas. Instead, Dalton Brooks got the ball and took it 48 yards to the Tigers’ 18-yard line.
Here’s video of the fake punt:
The Aggies had an opportunity to drive a stake through the Tigers’ chances in this one, but ultimately settled for a field goal to go up 24-7. They fumbled on their next drive before holding Mizzou to a field goal to cut the lead to 24-10.
It bears mentioning, by the way, that Dalton Brooks is a defensive back. He started the day fifth on the team in tackles with 32. Brooks has also totaled 3.5 tackles for a loss and 1.0 sacks.
