Mike Elko had a message for critics of Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman after the Aggies’ 41-10 win over Missouri on Saturday.
“Some of the stuff that has been said about this kid and written about this kid — not by you guys, you guys have been great — is embarrassing,” Elko told reporters in his postgame press conference.
In his first game in nearly a month, Weigman didn’t throw a touchdown, but didn’t throw an interception, either. He was almost perfect: 18-for-22 passing for 276 yards, adding 5 carries for 33 yards. All told, the Aggies outgained the Tigers 512-254.
Elko said that he and his staff knew that Weigman would be ready to go following practice on Thursday. And the Aggies head coach had some fiery words for his quarterback’s detractors.
“There’s a lot of people right now that need to stand up and recognize what they’ve said over the last three weeks and take some ****ing ownership for it,” he said.
The Aggies, who were No. 25 coming into Saturday, are set to take a massive jump in Sunday’s rankings. They face Mississippi State on Oct. 19 after an open week.
