Mississippi State DB out for the season, Zach Arnett announces

Mississippi State will be without a sophomore defensive back for the 2023 season.
Bulldogs head coach Zach Arnett announced in his Monday press conference that safety Ja’Kobi Albert will not be able to play this season. Albert suffered an injury in fall camp and has not played in MSU’s first games.
“Unfortunately, Kobi is probably going to be done for the year,” Arnett told reporters. “He had a knee injury in camp. We gave it a couple of weeks to try and heal up and see if he could play on a brace, and just, unfortunately, he wasn’t able to. My admiration for him, the fact that he was willing to try and do that just because he wanted to play so bad. He’s going to be having a season-ending knee operation.”
Albert joined Mississippi State in January. He began his college football career at Kentucky.
Out of Fairfield (Alabama), Albert was a 3-star prospect on the 247Sports Composite, who picked up 22 scholarship offers. He signed with Kentucky over Auburn, Michigan, Maryland and others.
In his freshman season with the Wildcats, Albert played in 10 games. He had 3 solo tackles, including 1 for loss.
MSU shifts to conference play in Week 3 as defending SEC West champion LSU comes to Starkville. Kickoff is set for noon ET on ESPN.
