Mississippi State lands commit from 3-star CB formerly pledged to Big 12 program

Mississippi State has landed a verbal commitment from a Florida cornerback originally pledged to Cincinnati.

Luke Evans, from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in South Florida, announced his decision on his Twitter account on Thursday. He becomes the 22nd player to pledge to the Bulldogs and the 1st to do so under newly-named head coach Zach Arnett.

Evans originally committed to Big 12-bound Cincinnati in June, days after an official visit. With Luke Fickell having moved on to Wisconsin, though, he eventually took an official visit to Mississippi State on Dec. 9 and on Thursday flipped his pledge to instead play in Starkville.

A 3-star recruit, the 6-foot-1-and-a-half, 165-pounder, who transferred from Marjory Stoneham Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., to play for Chaminade-Madonna in 2022, is considered the nation’s No. 53 cornerback in the class of 2023.

With Evans’ commitment included, the Bulldogs currently have the country’s No. 23 recruiting class.
