Missouri revealed an injury report for its opening game against South Dakota on Thursday night, and a handful of presumed starters appeared on the list.
Redshirt-senior linebacker Chad Bailey started alongside Ty’Ron Hopper in 2022 and was on track to do the same in ’23, but head coach Eliah Drinkwitz said that Bailey would be out for at least 21 days due to a procedure at a press conference last week. Sophomore linebacker Dameon Wilson, who started in two games last season, figures to step up in his place.
Bruising sophomore running back Michael Cox will be missed in short-yardage situations on Thursday, and Demariyon “Peanut” Houston was expected to contribute to the receiver rotation after a promising end to the 2022 season. Bence Polgar, a former Buffalo Bull, is projected to provide depth for the offensive line as well. Time frames on these three players’ return at this point is unknown.
Starting safety Jaylon (JC) Carlies led the team with 81 tackles a season ago and is expected to be one of the leaders in the secondary, but his status remains up in the air for Thursday night’s game.
