Although The Clarion-Ledger had already confirmed that Mississippi State had hired Peter Sirmon as its new defensive coordinator, the school made a few things official on Friday.

Sirmon will not only be the defensive coordinator, but also the linebackers coach. Meanwhile, Terrell Buckley will serve as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

Buckley had made it public on Jan. 7 that he’d been hired by MSU, his exact role on the team wasn’t clear at the time. He’ll also coach the team’s secondary in some capacity.

The Bulldogs will have to find a replacement for secondary coach Deshea Townsend. The school confirmed reports on Thursday that Townsend will be joining the NFL’s Tennessee Titans in the same capacity after three seasons coaching DBs in Starkville.
