How much it would reportedly cost Tennessee to fire Butch Jones Sunday

The Tennessee Volunteers continue to struggle under head coach Butch Jones, and his time in Knoxville could be coming to end.
The Volunteers offense managed just nine points and did not score a touchdown in Saturday’s loss to South Carolina. It was another abysmal performance for the offense which has managed just 26 points over the last three games.
Vols fans have just about had it with Jones, and many fans are ready for a change as the team is just 3-3 on the season with a matchup against No. 1 Alabama looming next weekend.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell provided an update on Jones’ buyout following the loss to the Gamecocks on Twitter, and it looks like Jones would be owed just over $8 million if he were fired on Sunday.
Here is the tweet from Rovell:
$8,423,610: What Tennessee owes Butch Jones if it were to fire him tomorrow.

It would be odd timing to fire Jones at this point of the season, but Saturday’s performance may be the end for his time in Knoxville. The university may decide to eat the money and finish the season with an interim coach at this point.
