Multiple SEC coaches were named to the midseason watchlist for the Bobby Dodd Trophy Thursday afternoon.

This award is given annually to the “head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity– the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd’s coaching philosophy,” per a release by the Dodd Trophy Thursday.

Of the 20 coaches listed on the watchlist, 4 hail from the SEC: Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Alabama’s Nick Saban, Mizzou’s Eli Drinkwitz and Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin.

Tulane HC Willie Fritz received the Dodd Trophy last season after leading the Green Wave to a Cotton Bowl win over USC. Saban won the award in 2014.

We’ve still got a half season of college football left before 2023’s winner is revealed at the end of the 2023 season through “a panel consisting of previous winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member.”
