NCAA denies eligibility waiver for Alabama basketball transfer

The NCAA notified Alabama on Friday that guard Jahvon Quinerly will not be immediately eligible to play for the Crimson Tide this season. Quinerly, who transferred from Villanova, applied for a waiver to dress at Alabama this season.
“We are disappointed in this decision and will be appealing,” Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne said according to AL.com. “He and his family have been through a lot, and despite those challenges, Jahvon has done everything he’s been asked since he’s been here.”
Not having Quinerly available certainly makes life more difficult for first-year Alabama coach Nate Oats. Quinerly, who is a former 5-star prospect, was expected to be one of Alabama’s top players this season.
Unless Alabama wins the appeal, Quinerly won’t be eligible until the 2020-21 season. As a freshman at Villanova, Quinerly averaged 3.2 points while shooting 33.7 percent in 25 games. He averaged just a little more than nine minutes per contest.
Quinerly posted how disappointed he is in the NCAA’s decision on Twitter.
