The NCAA is coming down on a certain form of indirect messaging when it comes to tweeting about recruits.
“Subtweeting” is a widely used practice that involves tweeting about someone without specifically mentioning their Twitter handle (think of it like you’re sitting next to your special someone on the couch on a Saturday and say, “Someone is going to watch football with me all day today whether they like it or not.”)
According to the Texas A&M compliance office, the governing body now deems it impermissible to subtweet while mentioning a Potential Student-Athlete (PSA)’s nickname in relation to their recruitment.
The NCAA has ruled on the issue subTweeting unsigned recruits.
