The NCAA has announced that all transfers are officially eligible to play.

“Division I Council grants waiver to allow DI transfer student-athletes in all sports to compete immediately this year,” the Inside the NCAA account tweeted, accompanying a graphic with an athlete’s statement.

The statement from Southeastern Louisiana women’s soccer player Carolina Lee cited the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are thrilled at the passing of the blanket waiver as we believe it is in line with DI SAAC, ensuring that all of our student-athletes have the best opportunity to thrive both academically and athletically,” Lee stated. “In a time of great uncertainty amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we feel it is in our best interest to grant immediate eligibility for those who have transferred in order to best support their mental health and well-being.”

While the college football season is winding down, this is certainly good news with the bulk of the college basketball season still ahead.
