Tua Tagovailoa’s ankle has the nation’s attention as the calendar flips from Week 8 to Week 9.
The Alabama quarterback suffered a high ankle sprain in Saturday night’s 35-13 win over Tennessee. Tagovailoa left the game mid-way through the second quarter, and he didn’t return to the game.
On Sunday, Alabama announced that Tagovailoa had surgery on his ankle in the same procedure from a year ago on his other ankle.
Nick Saban offered a Monday update for his quarterback, who’s currently on a non-weight-bearing situation following the procedure, and he said there’s no timetable for his return at this point.
“There’s no real timetable for his return, but the expectation is that he’ll be non-weight-bearing for several days and he’ll be able to come back as his rehab allows him. We are hopeful that in a 10-day time period, he’ll be back doing pretty active-type rehab,” Saban said Monday during his regularly scheduled press conference.
Tagovailoa will miss Saturday’s game against Arkansas, but he’s told his teammates that he’ll return for the LSU game in 19 days. That, of course, depends on how well his rehab goes starting in 10 days.
The Alabama quarterback has thrown for 2,166 yards, 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
Mac Jones replaces Tagovailoa as Alabama’s starter for the Arkansas game.
