Alabama coach Nick Saban is quite familiar with new Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher, as Fisher was Saban’s offensive coordinator during their days at LSU.

Saban’s Crimson Tide squad also soundly defeated Fisher’s Florida State Seminoles in Week 1 of the 2017 season at the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.

With so much history between them, it should come as no surprise that Saban thinks A&M made a great hire by bringing Fisher to College Station. He welcomed his former assistant to the SEC on Tuesday:

“We look forward to having (Jimbo) as part of the Southeastern Conference,” Saban said. “He is one of the best coaches we have ever had. He did a fantastic job at Florida State, winning a national championship, and I know he will do an excellent job at Texas A&M.”

Saban will get to officially welcome Fisher to the SEC next year, when Fisher’s first SEC game will come on Sept. 22 in Tuscaloosa.

That game could get ugly, but as the Fisher era goes on in College Station, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the Aggies start to compete with the Tide on a yearly basis.
