During Hugh Freeze’s tenure at Ole Miss, the Rebels’ offense gave Nick Saban’s Alabama squad fits. While the score of Ole Miss’ memorable 2014 victory over UA was 23-17, the next two games were decided by scores of 43-37 (Rebels win) and 48-43 (Crimson Tide win).

Ole Miss is again bringing a high-powered offense to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, this time under Lane Kiffin. On Wednesday, Nick Saban was asked if he sees any similarities in the Rebel offenses under Freeze and Kiffin.

“I think there’s probably some similarities but I think this is pretty unique in terms of what they’ve put together, how they do it,” Saban said in his press conference. “There’s some similarities to spread, but they run the ball and they run it effectively. They’re really good at it and then they’re really good at taking advantage of _ anything you do to stop the run, they’re going to throw RPOs or play-action passes to take advantage of that. They have man beaters when you play man to man. It’s a very well-orchestrated offense but it’s also not only well-conceived but it’s also very well implemented in a game to take advantage of what the defense is doing.”

Kiffin’s squad is No. 1 in the SEC in total offense, averaging 638.3 yards per game through 3 contests.
