Gus Malzahn has a new position open on his support staff down at Auburn.
North Carolina announced the hiring of Billy High this week as director of football recruiting and assistant athletics director on Monday. That’s the same role High had previously served at Auburn the previous two seasons. Mack Brown offered up the following statement following High’s hire at UNC:
“Billy High is one of the best young recruiting minds in college football. His background as a teacher, coach and athletics administrator has uniquely prepared him to lead our recruiting efforts at Carolina. His system of identification and evaluation, along with his marketing and customer service skills, combined with all the things that make this University and this football program so special will help us achieve our goals of winning championships with great players from North Carolina and beyond.”
High is the third former SEC staffer hired by Mack Brown at UNC this offseason, as offensive coordinator Phil Longo was hired from the Ole Miss staff and associate head coach/tight ends coach Tim Brewster was hired away from Texas A&M.
Former Tennessee assistants Robert Gillespie and Tommy Thigpen are both on UNC’s current staff as well as former Alabama assistant Sparky Woods.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Michael Wayne Bratton oversees the news coverage for Saturday Down South. Michael previously worked for FOX Sports and NFL.com
