Football player for Division II national champions found dead on campus

Northwest Missouri State celebrated a 15-0 season that led to the Division II national championship in 2015.

Today, the champions mourn the loss of a teammate.

According to a press release from the university, Nicholas Turner was found dead in his on-campus residence on Sunday.

The Northwest Missouri State University community is mourning the loss of one of its students.

Nicholas C. Turner, a junior corporate recreation and wellness major from St. Louis, was found dead today in his residence on campus. The Northwest community is invited to a gathering at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom to remember Turner.

The death is under investigation by the Nodaway County coroner’s office, Maryville Public Safety and University Police. No foul play is suspected.

Turner was a junior that registered 22 tackles, including seven for loss, for the Bearcats during the 2015 championship run.
