The SEC normally doesn’t produce high-powered offenses.
In 2015, Baylor led the NCAA in total offense. The Bears averaged 7.26 yards per play.
The first SEC team on the list was Ole Miss, which ranks 10th in the country in total offense averaging 7.07 yards per play. Hugh Freeze’s offense is centered around the passing attack and its proven to be effective. The Rebels had 6,731 yards and 64 touchdowns in 2015.
The No. 2 SEC team was Arkansas, which ranked No. 29 in offensive yards per play. The Razorbacks averaged 6.83 yards per play. It will be hard to replicate that performance next season without QB Brandon Allen and RB Alex Collins.
LSU was the No. 3 SEC team in terms of yards per offensive play. The Tigers ranked 39th, averaging 6.70 yards per play.
The only other SEC teams cracking the top 50 were Alabama and Texas A&M.
The Crimson Tide ranked 45th averaging 5.89 yards per play. Alabama started to hit more explosive plays at the end of the season. Texas A&M finished 50th averaging 5.89 yards per play.
The SEC is a conference dominated by defense. But based on these numbers, it can hold its own on the offensive side of the ball as well.
