Florida is going to need a strong finish to salvage this year’s recruiting class, and it is off to a good start.

Nick Smith, a 3-star outside linebacker prospect, announced his commitment to the Gators via Twitter on Saturday evening.

Smith was originally committed to N.C. State, but he decommitted from the Wolfpack on Jan. 15. After nearly two weeks of deliberating, Smith decided to remain in-state and join the Gators.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker has a good nose for the football and always keeps his eyes up to examine what is happening. He will need to work on keeping his pad level low at the next level, however, as Smith has a tendency to play too high.

Smith is the 15th commitment for the Gators, who now have the No. 28 recruiting class in the country. He is rated the No. 82 outside linebacker prospect in the Class of 2017 and the No. 161 recruit from the state of Florida.
