Ole Miss men’s basketball fans received some discouraging news about the health of point guard Daeshun Ruffin.
Ruffin had to leave Tuesday’s game against LSU after suffering a knee injury in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, on Wednesday, it was revealed that the injury is serious enough that he will need surgery, ending his season.
“I feel badly for Daeshun, but I know he will attack rehab with a great maturity and will return stronger than ever next season,” Rebels head coach Kermit Davis said in a statement. “Our team has been very resilient all season long, and we expect no difference against a really good Florida team on Saturday.”
The Jackson, Miss. native was in the midst of a strong 1st year with the Rebels. In 14 games and 10 starts, he averaged 12.6 points a game—2nd on the team—and just under 2.3 steals across a team-high 25.9 minutes per game.
The Rebels are 12-10, 3-6 in the SEC, following their upset win over LSU on Tuesday. They travel to Gainesville to face Florida on Saturday.
