Ole Miss announced some major coaching news on Tuesday afternoon.
Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. will return to Oxford to coach the Rebels as their primary play-caller through the College Football Playoff. Weis was previously set to join Lane Kiffin at LSU with immediate effect.
Weis was on Kiffin’s plane when he arrived in Baton Rouge on Sunday. However, he’ll now be heading back to Oxford to play a pivotal role in Ole Miss‘s first-ever CFP run.
Ole Miss announced its entire coaching staff for the Playoff on Tuesday as well, including head coach Pete Golding:
Weis is still expected to join LSU after the conclusion of Ole Miss’s season.
Kiffin was the primary play-caller for Ole Miss, but having Weis for the Playoff run will certainly be a boost for the Rebels’ offense. Weis has been at Ole Miss since the start of the 2022 season and also previously worked under Kiffin at Florida Atlantic. He’s been an offensive coordinator at the collegiate level since 2018.
Ole Miss will learn its new College Football Playoff ranking on Tuesday evening. The Rebels just completed their first-ever 11-1 regular season.
