Ole Miss has suffered a pair of injuries at the center position this season. Now, the Rebels are turning to a sophomore to handle snapping duties on Saturday against Georgia Southern.

Sophomore Javon Patterson, who usually plays guard, will take over for the injured Robert Conyers and Sean Rawlings.

According to the Oxford Citizen, coach Hugh Freeze trusts the sophomore to fill in until the normal starters are back:

“He’s the next best guy to snap, I think, with Sean and Robert being down and not burning a redshirt. He and (Jacob) Feeley will hopefully handle the center duties,” Freeze said. “He has never snapped a ball in a game. That can always be interesting. Hopefully we can stay healthy throughout the game for sure.”

Ole Miss hosts Georgia Southern on Saturday at 11 a.m. Central time, looking to avoid its fourth-straight loss. The game can be seen on ESPNU.
