Former Tennessee outfielder Drew Gilbert is taking the Internet by storm with his hilarious dugout antics during San Francisco Giants games. ESPN’s Pat McAfee has now caught wind and is enamored with the rambunctious rookie.

During Tuesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, he was introduced to Gilbert via some clips and McAfee joked that a sport change might be beneficial given the high-energy nature of the Minnesota native.

“Drew Gilbert maybe needs to come over to football,” McAfee said. “His physicality levels are high.”

Once McAfee learned that Gilbert played in college at Tennessee, he immediately went into guest-booking mode for his other job with College GameDay.

“This guy’s a Tennessee Volunteer? We need him on GameDay,” McAfee said. “…Alright, Drew Gilbert’s one of my new favorite baseball players.”

The Houston Astros selected Gilbert with the No. 28 pick in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Gilbert played in the minors with the Astros, New York Mets, and then the Giants before being called up on Aug. 8.

The Giants are on the bubble for an NL Wild Card spot, so Drew’s on-field contributions and intangibles could help make the difference in a postseason berth.

College GameDay will be in Knoxville on Saturday for Tennessee‘s Week 3 contest against Georgia. Unfortunately, Gilbert has a conflict as the Giants are set to host the Dodgers this weekend.
