Paul Finebaum shared his thoughts on No. 11 Alabama’s shot at winning the SEC West title during the most recent edition of McElroy And Cubelic In The Morning.
Alabama is coming off a narrow 24-21 victory vs. Arkansas. Alabama trailed 6-0 in the first quarter before going on a 24-0 run. However, Alabama only scored a field goal in the second half as Arkansas cut into the deficit with a pair of touchdowns.
The ESPN analyst is still riding with Alabama in the division but more because of his lack of belief that there’s another viable contender.
“Right now I still feel confident. I don’t know how much enthusiasm I have for that confidence,” Finebaum said. “It’s primarily built on a lack of confidence or faith in maybe everybody else.”
Finebaum believes last weekend’s contest was a clear trap game for Alabama coming off the win vs. Texas A&M and before the crucial clash against Tennessee.
“I think Saturday in some ways was predictable. The game was just sandwiched right there,” Finebaum said. “…There’s just something about it (early games). Alabama played well at the beginning and then seemed to disintegrate.”
Finebaum is steadfast that Alabama can win the division but they aren’t at the same caliber as past editions of the illustrious program.
“I think they’re still in a good spot,” Finebaum said. “But anyone who doesn’t think this team is flawed is has missed the season.”
Tennessee at Alabama is slated for a 3:30 p.m. EST kickoff on Saturday (CBS).
