Paul Finebaum had an interesting view of the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings that took place on Tuesday night.

Ohio State is ranked No. 1, followed by Georgia, Michigan and Florida State. The first 2 teams on the outside are from the Pac-12: No. 5 Washington and No. 6 Oregon. Texas checks in at No. 7, 1 spot above No. 8 Alabama, whom they defeated in Week 2 in Tuscaloosa.

In total, the SEC has 6 programs in the rankings when also factoring in No. 10 Ole Miss, No. 12 Missouri, No. 14 LSU, and No. 17 Tennessee.

However, the ESPN analyst isn’t reading too much into the rankings at this point in the season as there’s still key matchups that will determine the final verdict.

“I kind of go into this telling myself don’t get upset. That’s a little bit of where I am. For probably 14, 15 I just blew nails out listening to some of the rationale,” Finebaum said. “I think it’s a good template. It’s a baseline. For all the people out there that don’t think these people know what they’re talking about. That’s all this is.”

Finebaum recently described the upcoming SEC West clash this weekend between Alabama and LSU as the “game of the year”. Another important SEC contest this weekend will be the battle between Georgia and Missouri in Athens. Both games will be part of a doubleheader on CBS. Georgia-Missouri is at 3:30 p.m. EST, followed by Alabama-LSU at 7:45 p.m.
