Even before the college football officially began, some analysts started looking to 2020. Back on Jan. 8, Jake Fromm declared for the NFL Draft and college football analyst Danny Kanell reacted by tweeting, “Florida Gators are going to win the SEC East next season. Book it.”

Brandon Zimmerman of the SEC Network shared similar thoughts.

“With four offensive linemen, Fromm and Swift leaving UGA, there will be a lot of momentum come SEC Media Days to make Florida the favorite in the East,” he tweeted the same day.

Zimmerman’s colleague, Paul Finebaum, however, isn’t so sure about Florida overtaking Georgia in the SEC East. On 247Sports’ “Social Distance” series, he shared some early thoughts on this year’s Cocktail Party.

“That is the game of the year right now, in terms of not really knowing,” Finebaum told Brandon Marcello. “I would still give Georgia an edge. I know a lot of people are ready to sell Georgia out, I am not. If you follow recruiting, they have been unbelievable. It never ends.

“And I still think Florida is behind them in recruiting. Dan Mullen is exactly who we think he is – a great offensive mind. And that team is complete for the first time in awhile. But I would still give Georgia a very slight edge.”

This debate will probably go on all the way up to Oct. 31. For now, Finebaum appears to be siding with talent over returning experience at quarterback and the offensive line.
