The College Football Playoff race just got a major shakeup. No. 2 Miami lost to unranked Louisville 24-21 on Friday night as a double-digit home favorite.

UM never led in the game. Louisville notched a 14-0 in the 1st quarter and was up 14-10 at the half.

The 4th quarter was full of drama. The Cardinals had a 24-13 lead with 7:42 left and were looking to drain the clock when a turnover set up an easy touchdown for the Hurricanes. Miami converted the 2 points to cut it to 24-21.

UM’s defense forced Louisville to punt the ball with 4:05 left in the game, still 24-21. Miami went on a 12-play, 54-yard drive that ended in disaster with Carson Beck getting picked off for the 4th time. The Hurricanes were in field-goal range at the Louisville 33 with 36 seconds left before Beck threw the costly pick.

Miami entered the game with the best national championship odds among ACC teams and third-best in the nation. While the Canes can still win the ACC and make the CFP, Friday night’s loss leaves little room for error going forward.
