Here’s a collection of noteworthy comments from Wednesday’s SEC Coaches’ Media Teleconference:
NICK SABAN (Alabama) — Saban was asked whether offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin would coach from the sidelines in his return to Knoxville for this weekend’s game against Tennessee. Saban didn’t waste any time in clarifying Kiffin’s plans for Saturday.
Question on the SEC Teleconference for Nick Saban
Will Lane Kiffin be on the sidelines?
"Yeah, Why not?" ~Saban's response— The Game Ryan Fowler (@TheGAMEon1009) October 22, 2014
BRET BIELEMA (Arkansas) — The Razorbacks head coach had great news for fans regarding injured linebacker Brooks Ellis, who is second on the team in tackles this season.
Bret Bielema said chances of LB Brooks Ellis being back Saturday are "very good." Chances of being back for Mississippi State are excellent.

(Arkansas faces UAB this week before taking on No. 1 Mississippi State on Nov. 1.)
GUS MALZAHN (Auburn) — South Carolina has under-achieved this season, but Malzahn’s not falling into a potential trap game against a Steve Spurrier-coached team this weekend.
Malzahn praises South Carolina as a talented team and says "we know we'll have to play really well to win."

WILL MUSCHAMP (Florida) — Muschamp’s seat has grown even hotter in Gainesville following last week’s loss to Missouri, but the Gators head coach had a major announcement about his quarterbacks on the teleconference.

MARK RICHT (Georgia) — Richt and the University of Georgia applied for star tailback Todd Gurley’s reinstatement this week, and the ‘Dawgs head coach commented on the matter during his time on the teleconference.
Mark Richt hoping for "relatively quick turnaround" for NCAA on Gurley decision. Says gameplan for Florida won't change with or without him

MARK STOOPS (Kentucky) — Kentucky’s second year head coach garnered plenty of praise during his team’s 5-1 start to the year, but he’ll have his work cut out for him this week in facing No. 1 Mississippi State and Heisman frontrunner Dak Prescott.
"I don't know if anybody is completely capable of shutting down a guy like Dak." – Mark Stoops

LES MILES (LSU) — The Tigers’ head coach was asked if his team broke down tape of last year’s loss to Ole Miss in Oxford, and he answered in a way only Les Miles can.
Coach Miles on if the team has watched film of last year's Ole Miss game: Certainly the most recent past is something we’ve reviewed.

(That means yes.)
DAN MULLEN (Mississippi State) — Mullen was asked about recruiting in the wake of his team’s No. 1 ranking, the first in school history. He explained winning helps recruiting as much as any other element to a coach’s sales pitch.
Dan Mullen on Miss St's recruiting sales pitch … "not all steak dinners and pretty girls showing you around campus"

GARY PINKEL (Missouri) — Although Johnny McCrary was named Vanderbilt’s newest starting quarterback this week, Pinkel has learned when you face Vanderbilt, you’d better be prepared to face multiple quarterbacks in Black & Gold.
MIzzou coach Pinkel: "We have seen a number of QBs (at Vandy). We're not sure how it's going to come out."
— Adam Sparks (@AdamSparks) October 22, 2014
MIzzou's Pinkel sounds unsure McCrary will be only QB #Vandy plays. "We have to be prepared for anybody they play at that position."
— Adam Sparks (@AdamSparks) October 22, 2014
HUGH FREEZE (Ole Miss) — Rebels’ quarterback Bo Wallace may be notoriously inconsistent, but Freeze hasn’t lost any confidence in his senior signal caller.
#OleMiss coach Hugh Freeze on Bo Wallace: Been clear with Bo, you're our guy. We're going with u. You're the guy we have confidence in #lsu
— JimKleinpeter (@JimKleinpeter) October 22, 2014
STEVE SPURRIER (South Carolina) — Spurrier was asked about the similarities between he and Auburn coach Gus Malzahn in advance of Saturday’s showdown between South Carolina and Auburn.
Spurrier talks friendship w/ Malzahn: "We just have a lot in common, we're the head coaches that call the plays and we all play golf."
— AUBlog (@AUBlog) October 22, 2014
(Spurrier also referenced Freeze as a head coach who calls his own plays, and admitted he’s flattered both Freeze and Malzahn wear visors during games like Spurrier has since his days at Florida.)
KEVIN SUMLIN (Texas A&M) — It seems Texas A&M’s 59-0 loss to Alabama speaks for itself. Seriously, no one felt like asking Sumlin a question after his mandatory opening statement on the teleconference.
Coach Sumlin spoke and no one asked any questions…..next up Stoops, Mullen, Richt and Malzahn.

BUTCH JONES (Tennessee) — Jones was asked about facing Alabama’s defense this weekend, and he obviously thinks highly of the Crimson Tide.

DEREK MASON (Vanderbilt) — Mason announced yet another new starting quarterback for Vanderbilt this weekend, marking the fourth different player to star a game under center for the Commodores this season.
Vandy's Derek Mason says Johnny McCrary ready for first career start vs. Mizzou: "I'm just gonna let him play."
— Mike Herndon (@TheMikeHerndon) October 22, 2014
He also commented on Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk’s inconsistent play, which seems ironic considering Vandy’s inconsistencies at the quarterback position.
Vandy's Derek Mason on Maty Mauk: "He's had streaks of greatness and days where he’s had to work himself out of struggles."
