ESPN College Gameday anchor Rece Davis believes that Matt Rhule could take a full year off before he returns to college football.

Rhule, 47, compiled a 47-43 record in seven seasons at Temple and Baylor from 2013-2019. He had two 10-win seasons at Temple and led Baylor to an 11-3 season with a Sugar Bowl appearance in 2019. Rhule took the Carolina Panthers job in 2020 and was fired earlier this season.

Davis told Pat McAfee that he thinks Rhule will succeed wherever he goes.

“I was telling USC to go try to hire Matt Rhule when he was still with the Panthers,” Davis said. “I think he would be great wherever and whoever hired him.”

Rhule has been tossed around as one of the big names that Auburn would potentially go after to replace Bryan Harsin. It would appear that he would be certainly listen to any offers that interest him, but is Davis right in thinking he could take a season off and fully recharge?
