Report: 5-star California QB Matt Corral decommits from USC, has all-SEC top 3

One of the top recruits in California appears to be backing off his pledge to play for the home-state Trojans in favor of coming to the SEC.
Five-star QB Matt Corral of Long Beach, Calif. decommitted from USC on Saturday. According to 247Sports’ Tom Loy, Corral’s new top three is Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Corral, who measures 6-foot-2, 196 pounds, is rated the No. 2 pro-style quarterback, No. 2 California prospect and No. 17 overall recruit on the 247Sports Composite.

Currently, none of the schools in Corral’s new top three have landed a quarterback commitment for 2018. Florida and Georgia have been pursuing Justin Fields, a 5-star dual-threat quarterback who recently decommited from Penn State. In their time as SEC head coaches, Jim McElwain and Kirby Smart have signed more pro-style quarterbacks (like Corral) than dual-threat quarterbacks, but both have shown interest in dual-threat prospects. In the 2017 class, Alabama signed both a dual-threat quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, and a pro-style quarterback, Mac Jones.
Upon the news of Corral’s decommitment, two recruiting experts have submitted Crystal Ball picks for Corral on 247Sports. Loy sees the California pocket passer joining the Bulldogs. Demetric Warren of Varsitypreps.com, meanwhile, predicts Corral will sign with Florida.
