Report: Bryce Young threw 4 touchdown passes in Alabama’s first spring scrimmage

Bryce Young is off to a good start in Alabama’s spring quarterback competition.
The former 5-star reportedly threw for four touchdown passes in Alabama’s first spring scrimmage on Friday.
That’s according to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, who says two of the scores came against the Tide’s first team defense.
According to Zenitz, two of those touchdown passes went to tight end Cameron Latu. A converted defensive end, Latu has mostly played on special teams so far in his career.
Receivers Javon Baker and Xavier Williams caught Young’s other touchdowns, per the report. Slade Bolden also made a big play that set up one of the scores.
Young is the heavy favorite to win the job over Paul Tyson and true freshman Jalen Milroe. He played a little bit last season in relief of Mac Jones, completing 13-of-22 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown.
Earlier this spring, coach Nick Saban addressed the competition. He said Young was a little ahead of the other two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster.
“We have three quarterbacks in the program. Bryce is probably a little ahead of everybody else because he got a lot of reps last year,” Saban said back in March. “Even though he didn’t get to play that much, he got a lot of reps in practice, a lot of good carryover for him. I think he’s very confident and he’s done a really good job of preparing so far.”
Alabama’s spring game is on April 17.
