Report: Former All-SEC Crimson Tide player arrrested on drug, gun charges
Former Alabama offensive lineman Alonzo Ephraim was arrested by Jefferson County police after a traffic stop on Monday night, according to AL.com’s Carol Robinson.
He’s spending Tuesday evening in the Pleasant Grove Jail.
After Ephraim, 34, was stopped for a traffic violation, officers smelled marijuana before the former All-SEC player admitted he also had ecstasy and marijuana in his vehicle. It also turned out Ephraim had a pistol that he didn’t have a permit for.
Lt. Danny Reid says the authorities will receive warrants for a felony charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and carrying a pistol without a license.
Ephraim was an All-SEC selection for Alabama in his junior and senior seasons in 2001 and 2002. He went undrafted but played three seasons in the NFL, the first two with the Philadelphia Eagles and the last with the Miami Dolphins.
In 2006, Ephraim signed with the Cleveland Browns a year after being released by the Dolphins. However, he was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy and was subsequently waived.
