Former South Carolina WR Bruce Ellington released by 49ers

It was reported Thursday that former South Carolina receiver Bruce Ellington will be cut by the San Francisco 49ers.
Ellington missed all of 2016 with a torn hamstring, but having since recovered from the injury, he was fighting for a roster spot with the 49ers. Unfortunately for Ellington, San Francisco had a crowded receiving corps with Pierre Garcon, Marquise Goodwin, Aldrick Robinson, Louis Murphy, and a handful of rookies all fighting for playing time.
Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted the news:
49ers planning to release WR Bruce Ellington today, per source. Ellington is recovered from last season's torn hamstring.

Soon after Schefter’s tweet, the team confirmed the news:

Ellington contributed 26 touches for 250 yards and three TD’s in two seasons as a 49er. His best work came on special teams as a returner. Ellington averaged 25.6 yards per KO return in two seasons without a TD.
Ellington played three seasons for the Gamecocks. He finished his collegiate career with 106 receptions for 1,586 yards receiving and 16 TD’s. Hopefully, he can land a roster spot with another NFL team.
