The South Carolina and North Carolina men’s basketball teams were set to play a charity game benefiting victims of Hurricane Florence until the NCAA nixed it, Tar Heels coach Roy Williams said Tuesday.

Florence stalled after making landfall in the Carolinas in mid-September, causing widespread damage and a few dozen deaths. It appears the Gamecocks were involved in contributing to those who suffered because of the storm, yet for some reason, the NCAA decided against the idea of the charity game.

Williams didn’t provide an explanation for the NCAA’s denial, and it’s possible even he wasn’t given one. Though these plans fell through, it’s safe to assume both South Carolina and its neighboring school will find some way to assist those affected by the storm.
