In hindsight, Alabama offensive coordinator believes he should’ve had a different approach with quarterback Ty Simpson prior to the loss vs. then-unranked Florida State. Simpson finished with 254 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions but Alabama still lost by 14.

Simpson and No. 19 Alabama emphatically bounced back with a 73-0 victory vs. UL Monroe last weekend to take some of the sting off and Grubb gave his opinion on Monday about Simpson.

“I thought maybe I wasn’t hard enough on Ty [before Florida State],” Grubb said. “I didn’t harden him enough for the moment … I didn’t want to make that same mistake again.”

The 6-foot-2 Simpson clearly came out with a new mindset, as he completed all 17 of his passes for 226 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions and a 99.3 QBR in the lopsided home opening victory vs. UL Monroe. Overall, the Crimson Tide racked up 538 total yards.

Next up for Simpson and Alabama is a home contest in Week 3 vs. Wisconsin. Alabama leads the all-time series 2-1 vs. Wisconsin. The Crimson Tide defeated the Badgers 42-10 in Madison last season on Sept. 14, 2024.

Wisconsin at Alabama is slated to kick off at 12 p.m. and will be televised on ABC.
