Kentucky’s offseason game of musical chairs continues as Wildcats land Troy QB Sawyer Smith

There may not be another quarterback room in the Southeastern Conference that’s had as much turnover as Kentucky’s this offseason and the moves continue to be made deep into May.
Just this offseason, Kentucky has lost quarterbacks Gunnar Hoak and Danny Clark to transfer, which appeared to decimate the team’s depth at the position heading into fall camp.
The latest update to the quarterback room in Lexington came on Monday as former Troy signal caller Sawyer Smith announced he will finish out his college career as a member of the Wildcats. Smith is a graduate transfer from Troy, making him eligible immediately in Lexington. As an added bonus, Smith has two seasons of eligibility remaining, not just one like the majority of graduate transfers.
Sawyer is a dual-threat quarterback that could fit in nicely as a potential backup option for Terry Wilson in Lexington. During his two seasons on the field at Troy, Sawyer passed for 1,850 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 264 rushing yards and two scores.
He announced the news with the following post on social media:
