Scooby Carter shares statement about time at Alabama, entering transfer portal again

On Thursday, it was reported that Alabama defensive back Scooby Carter had entered his name into the transfer portal for the second time in his time at UA. Carter confirmed the news on Sunday, sharing a statement on Twitter regarding his future and his time at Alabama.
“My decision was not based on my position on the depth chart nor did I have any conflict with anyone at The University of Alabama. I simply choose to enter the portal because of personal reasons.” Carter wrote in a note posted to his Twitter account.
Carter was a big get for Alabama in the class of 2019. Coming out of Mansfield, Texas, he was rated the No. 9 cornerback and No. 91 recruit overall in the class on the 247Sports Composite. In addition to Alabama, he had 22 other scholarship offers, including Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M.
Carter’s freshman season, however, did not go as planned. He was reportedly suspended for the Mississippi State game on Nov. 16 and did not make the trip to Starkville. On the Monday following the MSU game, Carter announced he would be entering his name into the transfer portal and appeared to leave the team. At that time, Nick Saban left the door open for Carter to return to the team next semester.
Carter appeared to take Saban up on the offer, tweeting a photo of himself in an Alabama uniform with the caption, “Focus all 2020″ in January. As Carter has already demonstrated, entering the transfer portal does not bound a player to transfer. While Carter could technically withdraw from the portal again and remain at Alabama, his note indicates that he’ll be finishing his college football career elsewhere.
