An Alabama assistant is reportedly leaving Tuscaloosa after two seasons to join Pat Fitzgerald’s initial staff at Michigan State.

Alabama co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan is set to be hired as the Spartans’ OC, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. It’s a return home for Sheridan, who attended high school 45 minutes away from Detroit before walking on at Michigan as a quarterback.

Sheridan has been on the sidelines with Kalen DeBoer since 2022. He was DeBoer’s tight ends coach in 2022 and 2023 at Washington before joining the Alabama staff as DeBoer’s offensive coordinator and QBs coach in 2024. He continued to coach quarterbacks while moving to a co-OC role when Ryan Grubb joined the Tide as offensive coordinator ahead of the 2025 season.

Sheridan doesn’t just have playing experience in the Big Ten. He’s coached in the conference as well. From 2017 to 2021, he was at Indiana, first as QBs coach for two seasons and then as tight ends coach in 2019. In 2020, he was named offensive coordinator.

Before his time at Indiana, Sheridan had stops at Western Kentucky and South Florida. He was also a graduate assistant at Tennessee from 2014 to 2016.
