Rookie Rewind: How the SEC’s true freshmen fared in Week 3

Let’s take a team-by-team look at some the true freshmen who made a difference around the SEC in Week 3:

Georgia: Tailback Nick Chubb carried the ball four times for 34 yards in a 38-35 loss to South Carolina, and fellow tailback Sony Michel ran four times himself for 18 yards in addition to pulling in a 33-yard reception. Isaiah McKenzie had a 36-yard reception for the Bulldogs, while tight end Jeb Blazevich added an 18-yard reception. Linebacker Lorenzo Carter registered three tackles and a fumble recovery on defense.

Kentucky: Tailback Stanley “Boom” Williams caught two passes for 36 yards, including a 25-yard catch and run for a touchdown on the first play of overtime in a 36-30 triple-overtime loss to Florida. Wideout Garrett Johnson led the Wildcats with six catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns, while Dorian Baker contributed four catches for 37 yards and Blake Bone added two catches for 35 yards.

LSU: Tailback Leonard Fournette led LSU in rushing with 10 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown in a 31-0 win over Louisiana Monroe. He also pulled in a 20-yard reception, but accounted for zero Heisman poses by game’s end.. Fellow tailback Darrel Williams added seven carries for 37 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Brandon Harris completed 1-of-2 passes for 14 yards, and added two rushes for 11 yards. Wideout Trey Quinn caught two passes for 12 yards and added one carry for nine yards. Safety Jamal Adams tied for third on the team with four tackles.

Missouri: Tailback Ish Witter carried the ball four times for eight yards in a 38-10 win over UCF.

Ole Miss: Wideout Markell Pack caught three passes for 28 yards in a 56-15 win over UL Lafayette. Defensive back A.J. Moore led the defense with six tackles, including a tackle for loss, and defensive end Marquis Haynes registered four tackles and a forced fumble.

Tennessee: Tailback Jalen Hurd led the Volunteers with 14 carries for 97 yards and caught two passes for 24 yards in a 34-10 loss to Oklahoma. Wideout Josh Malone caught two passes for 23 yards. Place kicker Aaron Medley made his only field goal attempt from 31 yards, and also converted his only extra point attempt. Defensive end Derek Barnett recorded five tackles, including a tackle for loss.

Texas A&M: Wideout Speedy Noil caught three passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in a 38-10 win over Rice, and star defensive lineman Myles Garrett recorded eight tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Backup quarterback Kyle Allen completed 1-of-2 pass attempts for nine yards and an interception. Defensive back Armani Watts made six tackles in the blowout victory.

Vanderbilt: Quarterback Wade Freebeck made his Vanderbilt debut, completing 1-of-2 passes for just three yards along with an interception before he was pulled in the second quarter.
